FOREIGN EDITIONS OF VALIANT COMICS

In addition to shipping Valiant comics around the world each month,
printing companies in Italy (Play Press in Rome), Spain (Norma Comics),
and Norway (SEMIC Organization in Oslo) were given authorization
to reprint a few Valiant Comics, translated for the local readers.
Newsprint editions have also been found in the Philippines.

Italian Editions by Play Press in Rome (1994-1995)

The Play Press collection includes at least twenty issues of Turok,
fifteen issues of X-O Manowar, a Solar book, and an issue of Magnus.
Each of these books has been translated into Italian, including the titles.

Magnus, Robot Fighter -became- MAGNUS IL NECICO DEI ROBOT
Solar, Man of the Atom -became- SOLAR L'UOMO DELL'ATOMO
Turok, Dinosaur Hunter -became- TUROK CACCIATORE DI DINOSAURI
X-O Manowar -became- X-O IL GUERRIERO

Play Press issues often reprinted multiple Valiant comics into a single issue.
In addition to the title stories, comics italiani of Turok and X-O included
stories from Ninjak, The Second Life of Dr. Mirage, Shadowman and also
Archer & Armstrong. Many of these issues contained over 60 pages,
while one issue of Turok actually contained 144 pages.

Because Play Press was responsible for many other translations of American comics,
it is not uncommon to find advertisements for Batman, Superman, or even Vampirella
comics inside an issue of an officially licensed translation of a Valiant comic.

Some of the Play Press issues were available with variant covers, as indicated
by advertisements for the comics "in edicola" (newsstand) and also "in libreria"
(bookcase), with graphics showing two different covers for the same comic.
Prices on the cover of Play Press issues are shown in "L." (lira).

Spanish Editions by Norma Comics (Spain) (1994-1995)

The Norma Comics collection includes nine issues of Ninjak, four issues of Shadowman,
ten issues of X-O Manowar, and the Predator/Magnus trade paperback (prestige format).
Each of these books has been translated into Spanish, though the titles are English.

Norma Comics were generally aligned with their English counterparts,
that is, X-O Manowar #0 through #6 were the same contents in both versions,
however, the later issues (#7 through #9) of both Ninjak and X-O Manowar
contained reprints of later books, generally from the 1995 timeframe.

Norma Comics were available as both newsstand and direct editions.
The overall print run is believed to be around 5,000 copies per issue.
Prices on the cover of Norma Comics are shown in "ptas." (pesetas).
